Terms of Use

These terms explain what Money Foundations is, what it is not, and what you can reasonably expect from it. By using this site you accept them. We have tried to write them in plain English rather than legal language.

What this site is

Money Foundations publishes free information and free calculators about personal finance in the UK. Everything here is education. It is written to help you understand your own situation and ask better questions.

What this site is not

We are not financial advisers and we are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Nothing on this site is regulated financial, tax, mortgage, investment or legal advice.

We do not make personal recommendations. Our calculators take the figures you enter and show you the result of a calculation. They never tell you what you should do, and nothing they show is presented as suitable for you or your circumstances. Deciding what to do with your money remains yours.

Using this site does not make us your adviser and does not create a professional relationship between us.

About the calculators

The figures our tools produce are estimates, generated by a computer program from the assumptions built into it and the information you enter. They are not a quote, an offer, or a statement of what you will actually pay or receive.

Every calculator lists the assumptions it makes. Please read them. A result is only as good as its assumptions, and no calculator can know every detail of your circumstances.

Tax rates, thresholds and rules change, and the tools cover only the periods stated. Please check anything important against the relevant official source, such as gov.uk or your own lender, before acting on it.

Mortgages in particular

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.

Advising on mortgages is an activity regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and we are not authorised to give such advice. Our mortgage calculator does not recommend any course of action, product or lender. Before overpaying, remortgaging or changing anything, check your own mortgage offer and speak to your lender or an FCA-authorised mortgage adviser.

Getting help with debt

If you are struggling with debt, free and confidential help is available from organisations such as Citizens Advice, StepChange, National Debtline and Christians Against Poverty. They can advise on your specific situation in a way this site cannot. OurDebt Basics guide lists them.

Accuracy

We take real care to be accurate. The calculations are tested, and the tax figures are checked against gov.uk and recorded with their source. Even so, we cannot guarantee that everything is free from error or fully up to date at every moment.

If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us. We would much rather fix it.

Our responsibility to you

This site is free. You pay us nothing, you buy nothing, and we sell nothing. What we offer is published information and a set of calculators, provided as they are, for you to use or ignore as you see fit. We do not promise that they will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for any particular purpose of yours.

So far as the law allows, we cannot accept liability for any loss that comes from relying on this site or its calculators. That includes money lost or not gained, a decision that turned out badly, and any loss that follows on from those rather than arising directly. Please treat the figures as a starting point for a decision, not as the decision itself.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

If a court decides that any part of these terms cannot stand, the rest of them continue to apply.

Availability

This is a small, self-funded project. We do not promise the site will always be available or uninterrupted, and we may change or remove any part of it at any time.

Using our content

The words, tools and design on this site belong to us. You are very welcome to read them, use the calculators, print a page for your own use, and link to us. Please do not republish our content as your own or use it commercially without asking first.

Your privacy

The figures you type into our calculators stay in your own browser and are not sent to us. Our privacy page explains what happens to your information in full, and is dated so you can see when it last changed.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site grows. The date below tells you when they last changed.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute.
