This page explains what happens to your information when you use Money Foundations. It describes the site as it works today, and it is dated at the bottom. If we change how the site works, we will update this page before the change goes live.

What we collect

We do not currently ask you for any personal details, and there are no accounts to sign up for. You can use the tools without telling us who you are.

The figures you type into the calculators

Every calculator on Money Foundations runs inside your own web browser, on your own device. The figures you enter are used to work out the answer on screen. They are not sent to us, and they are not kept when you close or refresh the page.

This means that if you share a computer, nothing you typed is left behind for the next person.

Saving your figures to a file

Some tools let you save what you entered as a spreadsheet file. That file is created by your browser and saved to your own computer. It is not uploaded anywhere and we do not receive a copy.

Because the file contains your own financial details, treat it like any other personal document. If you are on a shared or public computer, save it somewhere private or delete it when you are done.

Our web host's records

Like every website, Money Foundations is delivered by a hosting company, and their servers keep short technical logs of the requests they handle. Those logs include the IP address your request came from, which counts as personal data even though it means nothing to us on its own. We do not use these logs to build a picture of you, we do not combine them with anything else, and we do not use them for advertising. They exist so the site can be kept running and secure.

Cookies

We do not currently set cookies for analytics or advertising. If that changes, we will update this page, and where the law requires your consent we will ask for it at the time rather than assume it.

The notice shown before our tools

Before you use a calculator we show a short notice explaining what these tools are, and what they are not. When you choose "I understand", your browser keeps a small record on your own device so that we do not show you the same notice every time you open a tool. It holds two things: the date you agreed, and which version of the wording you were shown.

That record stays on your device. It is not sent to us, it does not identify you, and it is not used to track you across the site. Clearing your browsing data for Money Foundations removes it, and the notice will then appear again the next time you open a tool.

Links to other sites

We link to other websites, such as gov.uk and the debt charities. Once you follow a link you are on someone else's site, under their privacy policy rather than ours, and we have no control over what they collect.

Your rights

Rules such as the UK GDPR give you the right to see, correct or delete the personal data an organisation holds about you. Where we hold personal data about you, you can ask us to do any of those things using the contact details on our About page. In practice there is very little for us to give you, because the site is built so that we do not receive it in the first place.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this page

This site is still developing. We may add things such as accounts, saved settings, advertising, or links that earn us a commission when you use them. If we do, we will update this page to explain what it means for your information before the change goes live, and we will change the date below.
